ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is Patrick; I am 24 years young and I work full-time as a library assistant. I am currently enrolled part time to get my Master's of Library and Information science online at Kent State University's iSchool.

Well why an art portfolio?

Drawing as always been one of my biggest hobbies ever since I was in elementary school tracing anime screenshots and following how to draw manga books. When I was a kid I wanted to be an animator or comic book artist! When I made this site in 2020, I was debating on changing my major from English Literature to animation, so I wanted to have a portfolio of all my art.

What happened to the to be animator Patrick?

That dream quickly faded when I realized that animation was not as easy as flipnote studio on the nintendo DSi. I ended up sticking with English Literature and gratuated with my Bachalor's in May 2022 and I had a minor in creative writing. I was not sure what I wanted to do with myself after I graduated, but my mother recommended that I try to get a job at a library.

The Great Job Hunt 2022-2023

Throughout college, I worked part time at Hot Topic for quite a few years, and I told myself I would stay there until I found a well paying job. And well... I went through two part time jobs alongside Hot Topic. I had many interviews, and I was told I was a great candidate, however someone else always had more experience than me. It wasn't until April of 2023 where I finally got the job I was looking for! They told me I started next month in May 2023.

So how has it been?

The library has its ups and downs, but so does every job. But being completely honest, this is the best job I've ever had. Working at the library made me realize how passionate I am about literature, art, free speech, and communities. This month as I'm writing this (May 2025) starts my third year at the library and wow has time flown. While working at the library, I have also been running an Etsy store where I put my art skills to good use. It is currently down for the Summer as I take a quick break from running it non stop for a few years now (also because of the US tariff situation yikes). 

But while working at the library, I've been reading lots of books on my breaks and at home. It made me realize, hey maybe I want to write books too! Don't expect anything soon however, I have lots of school to get through first. But reading queer literature makes me want to write it too! It's so exciting that there's so much out there now! (Even if certain people are trying to ban it).

What's Next?

School... I'm going to try to focus on getting the best grades I can so I can try to qualify for scholarships and possible reimbursement from my work. Art and non-school related writing will probably be put on the side for now. 

I'm going to try to produce some more merch for my Etsy store from US based companies. It'll be things such as art prints, buttons, and stickers (which I think are also getting affected by tariffs too??). I was successful vending at the Colossalcon East Craft Fair last year in 2024, so I'm going to try to get into that again this year in 2025!
